I should be sleeping

I am waiting for the CD burner to get done recording my teaching portfolio onto a CD. It doesn't take that long, but blogging is better than sitting there watching the timer countdown the seconds left until it is done.

I have one, maybe two, interviews this week with elementary schools. I'm leaving to visit Nate tomorrow (yay!) and will be visiting and interviewing on both Thursday and Friday mornings. I would greatly appreciate your prayers. God has been so faithful in providing contacts and interviews so far and I trust that He will continue to provide.

All done

Even though I'm not actually walking in the ceremony tomorrow, I still consider it to be the end of my undergraduate career. I can hardly believe it! Five years is gone. There are many things to remember and still more things to look forward to as I anticipate getting married to my wonderful fiance and moving to Texas.

Real world, here I come.
Last day memories

I really should be going to bed right now, as I told Nate I would before getting off the phone tonight, but I wanted to write about my last day with my kids.

Here's what I'll remember:

Getting a canvas bag with all of the kids' handprints and names on it
Coming into the room and having them jump out from under the tables and yell "Surprise!"
Getting a name plate to go outside of my new classroom from my mentor teacher that says "Mrs. Froyd" :)
Taking a class picture and having 15 kids gather around me with Travis on my lap and Mackenzee holding onto my arm.
Addy crying as she tells me she doesn't want me to leave. :(
Shelby telling me that I almost made her cry with what I wrote in her card
Getting a hug (more than one from some) one last time from everyone
Taking one last look at 15 kids I've grown to care for and love over the last four months

I was blessed to have such a wonderful internship experience. I wish I could take all of them down to Texas with me and just teach them all the way through elementary school. They are a fantastic group of kids. It was hard to say goodbye.

Job search updates

I have four possibilities at the moment. No actual job offers yet, but I have two applications in hand. I'm guessing that is a pretty good thing when you actually get an application from a school, but what do I know? :) I sent out my resume to two schools today--one of them is my top choice at the moment. They are all Christian schools, which is kind of opposite of what I thought I'd be working in, but that is where there are the best and most present opportunities, so we'll see. I have been very appreciative of Nate's Sunday school teacher and friend Kevin for setting me up with some contacts. That's where all of my opportunities are at the moment. God is definitely providing for us in many areas and I look forward to where I will be teaching and serving Him.
How's the sicky?

That's what my dad always used to ask when he would come home and one of us was sick for the day. I stayed home from school today--my first time all semester being sick. I'm so thankful for the health God has given me this semester. Even this cold is proving to be pretty mild.

I can't believe I graduate this Saturday! I'm not actually walking in the graduation ceremony for a couple of reasons, but I still consider Saturday to be the last day of my undergraduate experience. :( and :)
To ponder

Here are two quotes I need to share with y'all. The first is from Urbana 2000--a missions conference sponsored by InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. The second is from my staff worker Jim when I was talking to him about time management tonight..

"Everyone here is either a missionary or a mission field. There is no middle ground"

"You were able to go nine miles deep on about one inch wide instead of trying to spread yourself over nine miles and only be able to go one inch deep"--in other words, be choosy in what you commit to and don't spread yourself thin

Our humble abode

Nate has been approved for our apartment at Greenbriar Chateau. We are on the ground floor in number 126. I'm so excited! He gets to move in when I'm visiting him at the beginning of May, so I'll get to see it.

Make up your mind!

The weather has been very strange lately. Here's a run down of our last few days:

Monday- 70ish
Tuesday-80s (it was hotter here than in Houston!)
Wednesday-50s
Today-40s with a windchill in the low 30s
Oh Sad Day

The Wings are out of the Stanley Cup playoffs as of last night. It's a sad thing, but at least I won't be taking a lot of time watching them play when I need to be working, packing and wedding planning.

You should visit this site

Don't you love it when people tell you what to do? I'm going to do it for just a minute because I want to point you in the direction of my friend Carrie's website. Carrie gave me this wonderful smelling gift basket of homemade soaps and other pampering goodies at my bridal shower. She makes her own soap and other things and sells them online. Check out her website at www.backroadsgarden.com.

Enjoy!

Wedding registry at Amazon

Nate and I registered at Amazon.com finally. We are registered there for our Fiestaware and our Play Station 2 ( :) ) and some other things. You don't actually have to go order our Fiestaware off of Amazon.com, but just go there to see what colors we registered for--otherwise you could buy it on Amazon because they have pretty good deals and it saves you the trouble of looking for it somewhere on sale and then including the receipt, etc. Just some thoughts. Anyway, go to www.amazon.com, click on "Wish Lists", then click on "Wedding Registry" and either enter "Nathan Froyd" or "Tricia Drooger" into the search box. We should come up for you.

Nate and I are also registered at Target and Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I'll have links up to those and Amazon's soon over on the side. Once I get my wonderful teaching portfolio finished. I'm off to work on it now.

It's happening already

Today while teaching Junior Achievement to the second grade class down the hall, I had the sudden urge to use "Y'all"--so I did and it felt pretty natural. I said, "Did y'all have a good spring break?" It is so much easier than saying "everyone" in place of the "y'all".
More quotes

Nate at Wendy's in College Station after we bought our wedding bands (just had to put that last part in there :) ):

"Do you want to eat it at home or get it to go? Wait, let me rephrase that."
Finished solo teaching

As you may be able to tell, my solo teaching time is over. I have a lot more free time during the school day. I'm still teaching math (we are learning about pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters) and language arts (we're reading a book called Funny Frank), but other than that I will be observing other classes and doing odd jobs that I need to finish up before I graduate in two and a half weeks!
Another ten down

According to my future husband's blog, there are nearly 79 days until Nate and I get married! It seems to be going faster and faster. It seems like just yesterday that it was 100 days left.
Yay!

My very wonderful fiance spent much of yesterday trekking back and forth to get things worked out with our future aparment. I'm very excited because he applied for an apartment in a complex about 20 minutes (walking minutes, driving is about 5 or so) from Rice called Greenbriar Chateau. If we get approved, then we will be living in apartment number 126. I can't believe we almost have our apartment! If it wasn't for all of Nate's hard work yesterday (and his mom's spontaneous stop there on the way home from dropping Nate off) then we wouldn't have it. Yay! He's great! You know what? I think I'll marry him. Maybe in June. The 28th sounds good. Can y'all come? :D

Icy Welcome

Grand Rapids was a crystal city last night when I arrived (four hours late because I missed my connecting flight in Minneapolis). All the trees were still covered in ice from the ice storm a couple of days ago. It was quite breathtaking. I'm not enjoying the couple of inches of snow we received this morning. I miss Texas weather (and Nate too :) ).

Who'd have thunk it

Good customer service. What a concept! You'd think that many people out there in retail, food service, apartment management had never heard of such a thing. However, I've talked to quite a few people who have in the past week. I just got off the phone with a woman who works in jewelry retail and she is seeing if she can get our wedding bands shipped in on Saturday instead of Monday so I can see them. I didn't even have to suggest that she do this--and she's been working hard all week to check into pricing and availability. I've talked to at least four apartment management people this week who have been fabulous on customer service (and a couple who haven't been all that fabulous). They know the product they are trying to sell to me. I would want to deal with these people on a regular basis and I will pay a little more in order to do so.

Lesson number one in retail: Treat your customers well.
Lesson number two: Know your product.
Okay, I'm done. :)

She's addicted

No, Lisa, don't worry this isn't about your energy supplements *smiling*. I just had to laugh this morning when I read on Kortnie's blog that she was blogging when she should be packing. And you said you'd probably never write. Thanks for making me laugh, Kort.
Happy Birthday to Nate

I did my best yesterday to help Nate enjoy celebrating his 23rd birthday. We had a very nice dinner at a place called Collina's (sp?) Italian Cafe in Rice Village. Apparently lots of people like their wine because everyone had a bottle (or two or three) at their table. We might have to go back and try some. The food was good. Nate had a pizza that was quite delicious and my ravioli in a tomato-cream sauce was yummy. :)
The hunt continues

After spending the morning doing homework, laundry, thank you notes, and quiet times, Nate and I went out to apartment hunt again. Well, actually this is the first time we've gone together. We visited Bissonet Village again (my second time, his first time there) and also checked out some apartments owned by Andover Properties. The second one is probably out. I think the walk-in closet in the bedroom was larger than the kitchen! I'd like to be able to cook in there, but the size of the kitchen was ridiculously small. We are continuing to look and pray for a place to live.
