Becca's Announcement

Becca has an announcement for all of you. See the pic to find out what it is:

We heard her brother or sister's heartbeat again today at our first official birthing center appointment**. Actually it was the first time Becca and Nate heard it in person, since I had gone alone last week. I am due in the beginningish of August (around the 11th for those who like official dates), which puts me at about 12 and a half weeks along. Becca likes to talk about how the baby is getting bigger and bigger, but is itty bitty right now. She got to come with me to the ultrasound last week (my first one ever!) and it was so fun to see our baby moving all around even at 11 and a half weeks. I couldn't believe how much I could recognize. I don't think Becca recognized much, but she did know that we were taking pictures of the baby with a mouse like thing and when we got home Becca took her computer mouse (the one we don't use from the Imac), laid down, and put it on her tummy saying "baby...take, take picture" in her toddler pronunciations. Too funny.

I have had morning sickness, mostly just in the morning, but nothing serious. I'm able to keep things down and eat by 10 or 11am at the latest. I'm getting lots of sleep, thanks to Becca sleeping in to 7:30 or 8am every morning. I'm finally feeling like eating vegetables again. :)

We'll keep y'all updated on how things are going. Praise God...so far, so good.

**For those who are interested, I will, Lord willing, be giving birth at Nurse-Midwives of Indianapolis, an out-of-hospital birthing center with two wonderful certified nurse-midwives. This will be my second experience using a birthing center and I am already so happy with the people there and the facility. N-M of Indianapolis is one of the only out-of-hospital birthing centers in the state.

We're Back

...from California. Not that some of you even knew we were gone, but in any case, here we are. We returned yesterday evening and hit the ground running today...work, laundry, groceries, two appointments.

Something to note about Palm Springs...it is a desert and you will need to bring lotion and lip balm with you and use them constantly. It has a nice downtown area with shops and restaurants galore. Taking the tram up the mountain is very cool and it is quite gorgeous up there--we enjoyed God's beautiful creation while walking around--pictures to follow.

My favorite part of the trip (besides getting to meet the very cool people my husband works with and for) was getting to visit Andy and Kate. It was the most relaxing portion of our trip and thoroughly enjoyable. Kate taught me to make homemade salsa while I was there, and I hope to let you know if it turns out when I try it. Then maybe I can convince her to post how to do it. They go to a wonderful church and we were blessed to worship with our brothers and sisters in Christ there on Sunday too. We hope we get to visit them again sometime soon.

We are glad to be home..arriving back to snow, but happy to not be eating out anymore for awhile.

Books to read this year

Yes, I am still blogging. Just took an unintentional break with all the traveling and visiting we did in the past month.

I've done a little housekeeping at my blog as you can see: alphabetized (sort of) my blog roll, added a few lists, a picture, etc.

The big list of books on the sidebar is what I hope to accomplish in reading this year. It only has 19 books on it, but that is a lot for me since I'm not a fast reader and have lots of other projects calling me. I'm trying to make an effort to read, though, so the list should help me. They are not in any order, although I am currently reading the top two. I'll try to cross them off or something when I'm done.
