Nate's birthday

Nate has promised me he will not read my blog until his birthday, so that I can use it to communicate with all of you since I am lacking many emails.

Nate's birthday is coming up on April 1st (I feel funny telling that to many of you who have known him for longer than I have! :) ). On his birthday (or the day before) I think it would be great if he could get lots of emails telling him how much we think of him. I'm hoping y'all would do that with me.

Icky feelings

Yesterday I hadn't been feeling well. I haven't been waking up feeling well most mornings. I already made it very clear to my mom that it is not the usual reason for a woman not to feel well in the mornings. Anyway, I took my temperature after talking with Kortnie yesterday afternoon because I was feeling quite chilled all of the sudden and it was nearly 101 degrees. Yikes! I went to pick Nate up from work, moaning and acting sick (because I was) and getting all sorts of sympathy from my caring wonderful husband.

A couple of Tylenol later (not to mention a Wendy's frosty and fries and Nate reading to me from The Silver Chair) my fever was down a bit, but I was still coughing and feeling achy. Last night was not fun. My temperature ranged from 100-102.8, I was achy, and my mind was racing with dreams (again) I woke up at three and asked Nate to pray for me. I just didn't want to go back to sleep to those dreams. I had slightly less dreamful sleep for the rest of the night.

Today has consisted of Nate running out to get Gatorade so I don't get dehydrated; a cool shower; a little sleep; and finishing one of my books. I'm feeling a bit better, but quite weak and I still have a slight fever. Not my favorite way to end break, but I figure that there could be worse things to have.

So, that's how my break is turning out. It has been overall pretty productive, so I'm pleased.

Needles and Film

To add to my list of interests (reading, wall climbing, biking, knitting, photography, rollerblading, teaching, guitar) we now have sewing. For some reason, I decided to learn how to sew. After I read through a pattern to see if I can remotely understand it, I am off to JoAnn Fabrics to find a pattern for a bag. Nate's mom suggested that my first project be easy to get me used to reading patterns. She showed me how her sewing machine works and is going to help me. I remember my mom's old sewing machine. It was a beastly huge machine--I think it's broken. What do you think Mom D? Can I sew? :)

Also, this past Tuesday I took a photography class at Wolf Camera. I'm planning on going out today to try some of the things I learned about aperture, shutter speed, etc.
Spring Break

I am enjoying my Spring Break. We had Cara stay with us for two nights and brought her back to College Station on Monday evening. On Tuesday I spent most of the day cleaning the apartment quite thoroughly--floorboards, windowsills and all. Yesterday was my school work day. Today I am doing fun stuff, catching up on emails, reading, taking pictures, knitting, etc.

On the down side, I have been having lots of strange and tiring dreams lately. I'm not sure why.

Books I am currently reading

The Vile Villageby Lemony Snicket--book the 7th in "A Series of Unfortunate Events"

Church History in Plain Languageby Bruce Shelley--I'm about half way through it.

What's a Christian to do with Harry Potter? by Connie Neal--it's actually pretty good so far at dealing with both sides of the debate fairly even though the author is a Harry Potter fan (I am also). I'd recommend it, but I'll keep you updated.

Godward Life by John Piper--a good devotional focusing on the supremacy of God in all of life--very practical. It's the first in a series of three, each containing around 120 entries.

Psalm 119--I'm studying eight verses at a time during my worship and devotional time in the mornings before school. If you struggle with seeing how to delight in God's Word, I would recommend it. What the heck, I recommend it even if you aren't. :)

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C.S. Lewis--Nate and I are reading through the Chronicles of Narnia in the original order (not chronologically) together and have been since before we were married. I love it when Aslan shows up in the books because he (as he is supposed to) reminds me so much of Jesus and how powerful, awesome and compassionate, life-changing, etc he is. I can't quite describe it to you in words how much more I long to be with Christ after seeing how the characters in the Chronicles love to be with Aslan and what an impact he has on them.
I'm here!

It has been one day short of a month since last wrote. I know. It's bad. I really do enjoy keeping people updated on here, but since February was such a blur at school, this became last priority. Thanks to some of my friends who gave me a swift kick in the butt (and the ego---hitting cars in car washes is something I'd like to forget :) ), I am now back and going to try to be a regular blogger.

I am officially on my first day of Spring Break and loving every minute of it. It's been so gorgeous here lately. Low humidity, sunny, breezy and in the high 60s to high 70s during the day. We might have a sauna-like summer down here, but we have a gorgeous fall and spring. I have to say that I really didn't miss the snow. Being in it again every once in a while might be nice, but I could live without the icky parts of it.

Tonight we are going out to dinner with Mom and Dad Froyd, and Cara for her birthday. I stayed with them (minus Cara cause she was at school) last weekend when Nate was out visiting Mikey in California during the last half of his Spring Break from Rice. It was nice to spend some time with them without Nate there, although I graded research papers for most of the time. We also watched "Monk," my new favorite show (we avoid watching TV for a number of reasons, but this show is good). Cara is going to stay with us tonight and tomorrow night, which will be nice since we haven't seen her since Christmas.
