I couldn't resist

I don't quite match up to Dave or Jonathan, but here are the states I've visited.

Let me try again

I think this got lost in my immense amount of posts, so here is a sort of re-posting of one on which I would like your response:

Would you like to take a survey?
I miss Animaniacs. I have that line running through my head as I typed the titile of the two women (was it women or men?) asking every possible question about beans. :) Anyway, onto the real survey.

Do you regularly exercise? If so, how often, for how long, and what do you do?

I'll start with my answer.
Yes.
I exercise Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday mornings at 5am (or so)
I ride my bike on its trainer for 30 minutes while I watch a movie or read.
I want to work weight lifting back into my workout too.

Now, your turn.

<3

I love my husband. :)
Gasp

Nate has never seen an episode of Animaniacs! I have to get one for him to see. I used to love my afternoons watching that show.
New email

Over the past week or two I've been receiving tons of junk email. The subject contains my maiden name and some advertisement for whatever you can think of. For a while I was pressing the "Spam" button, but had recently been getting mail delivery error messages. Nate suggested that when I press "spam" Yahoo also sends a "don't-send-this-person-email" message to the people who sent it. But that doesn't help because then they see that there is really someone on the other end of my email address, so they keep sending more stuff to me. Uh, it's so frustrating.

I've been thinking about changing my email address anyway to include my married name. I don't know who else to go with than Yahoo. I don't want to use Hotmail. Does anyone have any suggestions for an email client I can use that has good spam protection, that I can access anywhere, and that is compatible with Mozilla (Hotmail isn't).
A good site

Some of you thought the Mayo Clinic food pyramid site was pretty cool (and some of you--Travis-- didn't :) ). I spent some time on the site the other day looking up recipes and found these two sites:

1. Quick and Healthy Recipes--even lets you choose 2, 4, or 6 servings
2. Recipe Makeovers--their registered dieticians take your regular recipes and make them more healthy with the hope that they don't reduce the deliciousness of them. :)

Each of the sites has nutritional information too. It's just good for finding some yummy recipes. We made a chicken caesar salad from one of the sites that Nate even liked. :)
Making me think

This quote on the front of our bulletin last Sunday from John Stott made me think very seriously about how I approach God's Word the Bible:

"We need to repent of the haughty way in which we sometimes stand in judgment upon Scripture and must learn to sit humbly under its judgment instead. If we come to Scripture with our minds made up, expecting to hear from it only an echo of our own thoughts and never the thunderclap of God's, then indeed he will not speak to us and we shall only be confirmed in our own prejudices. We must allow the Word of God to confront us, to disturb our security, to undermine our complacency and to overthrow our patterns of though and behavior."

Good stuff

My student who I wrote about not trusting in Jesus, was giving me a long hug yesterday. Then she looked up at me and said, "I love you, Mrs. Froyd." "I love you too, [name]," I replied. It shows me so much that she is just yearning for someone to pay attention to her and give her stability. I wish I could take her home.

And another one of my students who has tested my patience to about it's limit because of her terrible attitude and lack of effort, stopped in front of me on her way in the classroom and said, "I wanna give you a hug." I happily complied with her request. That's a big step for her too.

Oh Lord, please keep working in these young girls lives.
Appreciating what we should

We had an older gentleman as a speaker today about Texas Rangers at Rodeo Day. It made me think about how I never appreciated my grandparents when I had the chance. They have so many good stories and history to offer. I hope I'm not too late. I'm derfinitely going to take advantage of the time I have left with them.

On the down side of that speaker, he made it sound like the Native Americans were just a nuisance to the settlers. I mean I understand that they were kind of a problem from the settlers point of view, but I didn't like it when he talked about it in a way that sounded like the settlers had every right to the land that the Native Americans had been on for a long, long time. I don't want my students to have the impression that if we have more power we can just take whatever we want even when someone else already "owns" it. I didn't get a chance to talk with them about it. I might try on Tuesday.
When it rains it pours

Yes, folks, it's rainy season in Houston. I suppose I'll take it over arctic winds, but it is a bit dreary. At least we get some days of sun where it warms up from our frigid teimperatures (30s-40s) up to our warm temps in the 60s. I can't complain. We had such a beautiful late fall and early winter.

Also, I have a bunch of posts to make, so bear with me. They've been building up and I finally have time to post.
Four day weekend

I have Friday and Monday off. Yay! I'm so excited. I plan on spending tomorrow getting things done (getting a Texas license, all my school work, cleaning the car, etc.). Tomorrow night we are going to see our parents who live nearby (College Station). We plan on staying until later Saturday evening. Then Sunday and Monday I get to relax with my hubby and enjoy the time off. I hope that's how it works anyway.

Today was Rodeo day at school. Something we don't have up in MIchigan. It was pretty fun. The kids had performances in the morning and I got to use our new N75--it's very cool. Plus, we did Valentine's parties. I was not expecting so many gifts--tons of chocolate. I brought home two large paper bags full and one box (2ft x 1 ft.). It's insane. We are bringing most of the chocolate and candy to RUF tonight to give away. It's sweet of my students and all, but I wish they would pool all that money together that they used for gifts and by food for a food pantry or something instead.

Trusting in Jesus

One of my student's is going through her mom's second divorce. The first one happened when my student was 5 and a half. I gave my student's some time to spend praying and filling out a worksheet I had made about being a Christian. It's a little hard to explain without you actually seeing it. I'm not fond of your typical worksheet, but this one worked out okay with the kids. After sharing the gospel with my kids and giving a few more instructions, I passed out the work sheet and deemed it quiet time.

Anyway, the first question was "Do I trust in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior? Yes or No." I tried to make it very clear that I wouldn't dislike my student's who answered "No" to anything on the worksheet. That I wanted them to be honest and I wanted to use their answers in order to pray for them, encourage them, and talk with them. My student who is going through her mom's divorce answered "No" to many of the questions. I'm glad she was honest with me. Here are her comments that she left me on the back. I hope you don't think me breaking her confidence, since she doesn't read this and you don't know her. Plus I would welcome the prayers for her and for me as I minister to her.

Here it is:
"I don't trust in Jesus because my mom is always pushing me, and making me. It's not very trusting if you are forced to. I have gone through hardships my whole life. It's hard to trust when you are alone and no one listens to you. "

She mentioned that she could write more, but ran out of room. It just broke my heart to read that. It broke it even more to know that she doesn't understand how Jesus understands her suffering, how God is our comforter, refuge, and strength, and how much healing he could bring her. I know I haven't been through half of what she has been through, but aren't those things true?

Please pray for me, and feel free to offer your advice on how I can share the gospel with her in a way that ministers to her. I've never been through divorce and don't understand what she needs to hear. I know that the Holy Spirit can work through me and in her heart, but I want to be wise in seeking advice from my brothers and sisters who understand her hurt.
Plagiarism

My student's are now obsessed with plagiarism. They call everything plagiarism. If one copies what another says, I all of the sudden hear--"That's plagiarism!"

Oh well, at least they are aware of it. If only I could help them understand how not to plagiarize in a research paper where you don't take direct quotes (I'm not teaching them how to take direct quotes or even how to cite ideas in their papers yet. Baby steps.) I have a hard time with putting things in my own words sometimes. It's just hard not too say it like it's already been said.
Man, I'm a slacker blogger

I do choose to blog every once in a while.
Hymns

I love the first verse of this hymn by Newton:

“Let Us Love and Sing and Wonder” Newton/Taylor

Let us love and sing and wonder,
Let us praise the Savior’s name!
He has hushed the law’s loud thunder,
He has quenched Mount Sinai’s flame:
He has washed us with his blood, (repeat 2x)
He has brought us nigh to God.

I love how Christ our Savior has hushed the law's loud thunder, and that after washing us with his blood, he brings is near to God. Good stuff. How can you not like a hymn like this? (That's a rhetorical question. :) )
